In addition to their backgrounds in dentistry, Dr. Edwards and Dr. Goos have also completed years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training. As oral and maxillofacial surgeons, our team of professionals manage a variety of conditions relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions. Meet the Doctors

Dr. Richard W. Edwards

DMD, MSc, MRCD (C)

Dr. Edwards was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. In 1981 he graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in dentistry with great distinction and the gold medal. Dr. Edwards then went on to pursue his postgraduate training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at McGill University and the Montreal General Hospital.

Dr. Edwards obtained a Master’s of Science degree and his diploma in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1984. Dr. Edwards returned to Calgary in 1984. He is a member of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. R. Ryan Goos

DMD, FRCD (C), Dip. ABOMS

Dr. Goos was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan.  He obtained his dental degree at the University of Saskatchewan in 2000.  After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Goos then entered into a one year oral surgery internship at the University of Southern California – Los Angeles County Medical Centre.  The following year he was accepted into the post graduate Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program which he completed in 2005.

 Dr. Goos is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Surgical staff

In addition to our talented surgeons, our team at Mission Oral Surgery also includes our experienced, certified oral and maxillofacial surgical dental assistants and Registered Nurses (RN). These healthcare professionals assist in the administration of IV sedation and surgery, and are available for any questions or concerns you may have about your procedure.

Our staff are also trained administrative personnel, who are well versed in health and insurance policies.

3D imaging

The Kodak 9000 3D system gives our oral and maxillofacial practice state-of-the-art technology to help Drs. Edwards or Goos diagnose potential issues more accurately and provide treatment with unprecedented confidence. Unlike a traditional spiral CT scanner, this 3D system utilizes cone beam CT technology and provides precise, crystal-clear digital images while minimizing your exposure to radiation.
